Sharp Biomedical Closes Pre-Seed Funding Led By Gener8tor 1889 To Advance Outpatient Spine Procedures

Sharp Biomedical closed a pre-seed funding round led by gener8tor 1889, with participation from several physician angel investors. The Fargo, North Dakota-based medical device company is developing streamlined toolsets and implants designed for outpatient spine procedures targeting patients with early-to-mid-stage chronic pain.

The new capital will fully fund the development and testing pathway for Sharp Biomedical’s first purpose-built toolset and implant system.

The company is designing the technology specifically for outpatient pain clinic workflows, with the goal of giving physicians an additional treatment option before patients progress to later-stage spinal care.

Sharp Biomedical is focusing on manual procedures that can be performed in outpatient settings without requiring major capital investments or extensive infrastructure upgrades.

The company said its approach is intended to expand access to interventional spine care by enabling more procedures to be performed directly in local clinics.

Sharp Biomedical is positioning its strategy as complementary to the industry’s growing use of robotics and other complex technologies for late-stage spinal treatment.

The company believes a significant unmet need remains earlier in the care continuum, where simpler procedures may allow physicians to intervene sooner.

With the pre-seed round completed, Sharp Biomedical plans to move ahead with testing protocols and continued physician input as it works toward future regulatory milestones.

The company is also preparing for the eventual commercial launch of its flagship device.

Sharp Biomedical designs its products around physician feedback and aims to reduce reliance on large hospital infrastructure, robotics, and prolonged operating times.

Gener8tor 1889, which led the round, is a North Dakota-focused venture capital fund operated by gener8tor.
