Sidley has hired Timothy FitzSimons as a partner in its M&A and Private Equity group in Chicago, adding a veteran deal lawyer with more than two decades of experience advising on public and private M&A transactions totaling more than $200 billion.

FitzSimons joins from King & Spalding, where he was a partner in the firm’s Corporate practice. His work spans complex public-company and private-company transactions, including tender offers, carve-outs, cross-border deals, stock-for-stock mergers, and deSPAC transactions. He also advises special committees and independent directors on conflict-of-interest matters, including take-private transactions, and regularly counsels boards on corporate governance.

The move continues Sidley’s recent buildout in the category, following the firm’s addition of six M&A partners in 2025 across multiple offices, and comes as Sidley highlights the scale of its global M&A and Private Equity platform, which it says includes more than 650 lawyers supporting transactions across a wide range of industries.
