Sidley has added Michael Alcan as a partner in its Tax practice in Century City, continuing the firm’s expansion of its private equity and transactional tax capabilities.
Alcan joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a Tax partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office.
His practice focuses on advising investment funds, private equity sponsors and other clients on tax matters arising from complex investment structures and transactions.
Alcan’s experience includes domestic and cross-border fund formation, fund restructurings, continuation funds, GP stakes and fund financings, along with sponsor-level tax planning.
He also advises on tax considerations involving M&A, capital markets transactions, restructurings, joint ventures and other cross-border transactions.
The addition comes as Sidley continues expanding its Tax practice around private capital.
Earlier in 2026, the firm added Tax partners Deborah Paul, Greg Featherman and James Gouwar in New York.
Gouwar joined as part of a five-partner team that also included Global Finance partners Lee Askenazi, Alistair Dunlop, Robert Hagan and Rebecca O’Brien.
Sidley’s Tax practice now includes more than 60 tax lawyers across the U.S. and Europe.
The broader firm has approximately 2,300 lawyers across 21 offices worldwide.
