Sidley Austin has expanded its Global Arbitration, Trade & Advocacy practice with the addition of Maura Rezendes as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Rezendes joins from A&O Shearman, where she served as U.S. Head of Sanctions, bringing extensive experience in advising financial institutions and multinational corporations on compliance with the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations.

Rezendes is widely recognized for her work on complex sanctions, enforcement matters, and internal investigations involving U.S. and cross-border regulatory issues. Her arrival enhances Sidley’s capabilities in advising clients on rapidly evolving global sanctions regimes, trade controls, and compliance frameworks—areas that have become increasingly critical amid geopolitical and regulatory developments.

The move also reflects Sidley’s continued investment in expanding its international trade and regulatory platform, particularly in Washington, D.C., London, and other global hubs. Rezendes’ appointment follows a series of recent additions to the firm’s trade and enforcement practices, positioning Sidley to provide comprehensive counsel to clients navigating the intersection of law, policy, and international commerce.
