Sidley Adds Securities Enforcement and Regulatory Partner Peter Malyshev In Washington, D.C.

Sidley Austin has hired Peter Malyshev as a partner in its Regulatory and Enforcement practice in Washington, D.C., adding a veteran commodities, derivatives, and digital assets adviser as the firm continues to build out its financial regulatory bench.

Malyshev joins from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, where he led the commodity derivatives and CFTC practice and served as a partner in the Financial Services Group. At Sidley, he will advise clients on regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters involving products and markets overseen by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including over-the-counter and exchange-traded derivatives, commodities-related products, and securities-linked instruments.

Sidley said Malyshev brings nearly three decades of experience counseling U.S. and international market participants across a wide range of asset classes and industries. His matters have included derivatives activity tied to interest rates, foreign exchange, credit default swaps, commodities and energy, agriculture, metals, emissions, and other markets, as well as newer areas including digital assets and fintech. The firm also pointed to his experience navigating risk management and compliance obligations under the Dodd-Frank Act and related CFTC and SEC rules, including cross-border application of U.S. regulatory frameworks.

In addition to advising banks, financial institutions, insurers, and commercial end users, Malyshev has worked with derivatives and commodity market participants on compliance under self-regulatory organization rules, including the National Futures Association, and with clearing organizations and trading venues in the U.S. and abroad.

The hire follows a series of Washington, D.C.-focused additions Sidley has made in 2025 across regulatory enforcement, white collar, privacy, and cybersecurity, as well as earlier securities enforcement and regulatory hires in Washington and New York. Sidley also noted Malyshev is another recent arrival from Cadwalader, coming after several partners who joined Sidley’s real estate team in April 2025.

Sidley’s Securities Enforcement and Regulatory practice represents and advises clients across global capital markets matters, including investigations and enforcement actions involving the SEC, CFTC, the U.S. Department of Justice, state attorneys general, U.K. regulators, and other federal, state, and self-regulatory bodies.
