Signal AI, an AI-driven reputation and risk intelligence company, announced that it has acquired Memo, a platform that provides article-level readership data directly from publishers. The deal aims to transform how communications teams measure the impact of earned media by replacing traditional metrics such as impressions and reach with verified readership data.

Memo, founded in 2018, is described as the only platform that reports how many people actually read specific articles, rather than estimating potential audience size. Its customers include major global brands such as Google, Pepsi, Walmart, Keurig Dr Pepper, and PayPal. By integrating Memo’s capabilities, Signal AI will incorporate real readership data into its broader platform, which already analyzes media coverage, sentiment, and emerging risks across global channels.

The acquisition addresses a long-standing issue in public relations and communications, where teams have relied on “vanity metrics” that often fail to reflect true engagement. With Memo’s data, Signal AI aims to provide more accurate insights into how narratives shape brand perception and which stories pose meaningful reputational risk.

Signal AI plans to embed this data into its monitoring and alerting systems, enabling what it describes as “impact-based crisis intelligence.” This approach is designed to help organizations prioritize issues based on actual audience engagement rather than volume of mentions alone. The combined platform is also expected to improve reporting for senior executives, giving communications leaders clearer evidence of how earned media contributes to business outcomes.

The company currently serves more than 800 global clients, analyzing data across 226 markets and 75 languages. The integration of Memo’s readership insights is positioned as a significant enhancement to its offering, marking what the company says is the first time real publisher readership data has been incorporated into an AI-powered reputation intelligence platform.
