Siguler Guff Raises Record $3 Billion For Small Buyout Strategy Targeting Founder-Owned U.S. Businesses

Siguler Guff has raised more than $3 billion for its small buyout strategy, marking the largest fundraising in the history of the firm’s strategy focused on U.S. small and lower-middle-market companies.

The total includes more than $2.3 billion across commingled vehicles, including Small Buyout Opportunities Fund VI, and nearly $700 million in separately managed accounts.

Siguler Guff manages approximately $19 billion and plans to continue investing through private equity fund commitments and selected direct equity co-investments alongside experienced sponsors.

Fund VI will target established businesses with less than $200 million in annual revenue and generally up to $50 million in EBITDA.

The strategy places particular emphasis on founder- and family-owned businesses with long operating histories, durable financial characteristics and leading positions in niche markets.

Siguler Guff estimates that the addressable U.S. small and lower-middle-market universe includes more than 500,000 companies, representing approximately 96% of U.S. businesses based on Census Bureau data cited by the firm.

Since launching the strategy in 2006, Siguler Guff has committed more than $10 billion across more than 1,000 U.S. companies employing over 400,000 people.

The firm has completed more than 300 equity co-investments, served as the largest limited partner for more than 87 private equity sponsors and backed 46 first-time funds.

That network is central to the strategy, giving Siguler Guff access to a fragmented part of the private equity market where individual transactions may be smaller but the overall universe of potential investments is substantial.
