Sila has raised $300 million in private funding to expand U.S. production of its silicon-carbon battery anode technology. Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures led the round. The financing also included participation from 8VC, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, and other new and existing investors.
Sila will use the capital to increase production of Titan Silicon, its proprietary silicon-carbon anode material, and support a planned second-phase expansion of its manufacturing facility in Moses Lake, Washington.
Battery anodes are responsible for storing and releasing lithium ions as a battery charges and discharges. Most lithium-ion batteries currently use graphite-based anodes, while Sila’s technology replaces a portion of that graphite with silicon-based material.
Sila said Titan Silicon can provide 20% to 40% higher energy density than conventional graphite. The improvement could enable manufacturers to produce batteries that are smaller, lighter and capable of faster charging.
The company is targeting applications across electric vehicles, consumer electronics, drones, satellites, defense systems, robotics and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Many of these markets require batteries that combine high energy capacity with reduced size and weight.
The funding will also support Sila’s effort to establish a domestic supply of advanced battery materials. The company said China currently controls more than 90% of anode material processing and over 80% of global battery cell production.
Sila believes that concentration leaves U.S. manufacturers exposed to export restrictions, trade disputes and other supply-chain disruptions. Producing silicon anodes domestically could provide customers with an alternative source for materials used in critical technologies.
Sila completed construction of its Moses Lake facility and began operations in the fall of 2025. The company is currently increasing production at the 160-acre site.
The facility has an initial production capacity of two gigawatt-hours under its first phase. Sila has designed the site to potentially expand to as much as 250 gigawatt-hours of annual capacity over the next five years.
If that expansion is completed, Sila expects Moses Lake to become one of the world’s largest anode manufacturing facilities. The company also anticipates creating hundreds of jobs as production increases.
Founded in 2011, Sila developed Titan Silicon as a domestically manufactured alternative to conventional graphite anodes. The company commercially launched the technology in 2021.
The latest financing is intended to help Sila move from advanced materials development into gigascale manufacturing. The company plans to combine its U.S.-developed intellectual property with large-scale domestic production to serve customers across commercial and national-security markets.
