Simpson Thacher & Bartlett announced plans to open a new office in Singapore, marking a strategic expansion of its Asia platform and reinforcing its focus on private equity and cross-border transactions across the Asia-Pacific region.
The firm has appointed Ian Ho and Tony King as Co-Heads of its Asia Private Equity Practice, with both to be based in Singapore. The expansion also includes the addition of partners Theodore Heng and Carolyn Wong, who will join the Singapore office upon its launch.
In addition, private funds partner Tony Liu will relocate to Singapore to co-lead the funds practice alongside Adam Furber, head of the firm’s Asia funds practice.
The new office will focus on advising clients across private equity, funds, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, energy and infrastructure, and digital infrastructure, reflecting growing demand for cross-border dealmaking in Southeast Asia.
The move represents a renewed commitment to Singapore as a key financial hub. Simpson Thacher previously operated in Singapore between 1997 and 2003 and is now re-establishing a presence to support global investors and multinational clients active in the region.
The firm’s broader Asia footprint includes offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo, with nearly 100 lawyers advising on transactions spanning 17 jurisdictions across Asia-Pacific.
