JANA Partners announced a significant investment partnership with Super Bowl Champion Travis Kelce, consumer industry veteran Glenn Murphy, and technology executive Dave Habiger in Six Flags Entertainment. The group, collectively referred to as “the Group,” now holds an economic interest of approximately 9% in Six Flags, making it one of the company’s largest shareholders.
The investment reflects JANA’s confidence in Six Flags’ potential for substantial shareholder value creation and its commitment to working constructively with the company’s board and management to enhance both financial performance and guest experiences. The announcement was made by Scott Ostfeld, Managing Partner at JANA Partners, during the 13D Monitor Active-Passive Investor Summit.
JANA, an established activist investment firm founded in 2001 by Barry Rosenstein, is known for identifying undervalued public companies and partnering with their management teams to unlock growth opportunities and shareholder value. The investment in Six Flags aligns with JANA’s strategy of driving transformation within consumer-facing and entertainment companies.
The partnership also brings together leaders with proven track records of success across consumer, media, and technology sectors. Glenn Murphy, a 30-year executive with experience leading global brands such as Gap and Shoppers Drug Mart, currently serves as Executive Chair of both Petco Health and Wellness Company and Wella Beauty, and previously chaired the board of Lululemon Athletica. Dave Habiger, Vice Chairman of J.D. Power, has held several high-profile executive roles, including CEO of Textura Corporation, NDS Group, and Sonic Solutions, guiding each through successful acquisitions. He also serves as Chairperson of Reddit and as a director for Boston Scientific and the Chicago Federal Reserve Board.
The involvement of Travis Kelce, a long-time Six Flags enthusiast and three-time Super Bowl Champion, adds a unique public-facing perspective to the investment group. Kelce’s participation highlights the cultural resonance of the Six Flags brand and the potential to revitalize its appeal to new generations of visitors.
Through this partnership, JANA Partners and its co-investors plan to engage with Six Flags’ leadership to explore operational improvements, strategic investments in guest experience, and long-term initiatives aimed at unlocking additional value for shareholders.
