Skadden has added two partners from Paul Hastings to strengthen its private credit and restructuring capabilities, bringing Scott Heard to New York and welcoming Matthew Murphy back to the firm in Chicago.
Heard joins Skadden to lead the firm’s private credit practice within its Finance Group. Based in New York, he advises private credit lenders and other financial institutions on a range of complex financing transactions, including acquisition financings, asset-backed and cash flow loans, recapitalizations and special situations financings.
Murphy rejoins Skadden’s Corporate Restructuring Group in Chicago, where he will advise distressed companies, creditors, lenders, hedge funds, and asset managers on insolvency-related matters and liability management exercises. His experience spans capital structure management, out-of-court restructurings, Chapter 11 proceedings, distressed asset acquisitions, and post-petition financing.
The two attorneys previously worked closely together at Paul Hastings, providing integrated legal support on complex debt financing transactions. Their arrival reflects Skadden’s effort to deepen its capabilities in private credit and restructuring as demand grows for sophisticated financing and restructuring strategies.
Heard earned his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School and a B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Murphy earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
