Slack: AI Workplace Platform Unveils 30+ Slackbot Features To Become Enterprise “Ultimate Teammate”

Salesforce-owned Slack has unveiled more than 30 new AI capabilities for Slackbot, positioning the workplace messaging platform as a centralized operating system for enterprise AI and workflow automation. The announcement marks Slack’s most significant product expansion since its acquisition by Salesforce, transforming Slackbot from a conversational assistant into what the company describes as an “ultimate teammate” embedded across business processes.

The update introduces a broad set of features designed to integrate AI agents, enterprise applications, and team collaboration into a single interface. Slackbot can now transcribe meetings, generate summaries, and automatically execute follow-up actions across systems such as Salesforce. It also expands beyond the Slack app, operating across users’ desktops to understand context and assist with tasks in real time.

A key addition is reusable “AI-skills,” which allow teams to define standardized workflows that Slackbot can automatically recognize and execute. The platform also integrates with external tools through the Model Context Protocol, enabling Slackbot to route tasks across thousands of applications without requiring users to navigate different systems.

Slack is also embedding a native CRM directly into Slackbot, targeting small businesses by automatically capturing and updating customer interactions from conversations. For enterprise users, Slackbot now acts as a conversational interface for Salesforce’s Customer 360, allowing users to manage deals, accounts, and workflows entirely through chat.

The company emphasized that Slackbot requires no additional installation or configuration, inheriting existing enterprise permissions and governance policies. Slack says the feature has already seen rapid adoption, with some users reporting time savings of up to 90 minutes per day and internal Salesforce teams citing gains of up to 20 hours per week.

The broader strategy reflects Slack’s ambition to evolve into what it calls an “agentic operating system,” where employees interact with AI agents and enterprise software through a unified conversational interface. This positions Slack in direct competition with Microsoft’s Copilot ecosystem and Google’s Gemini integrations, both of which are embedding AI across productivity tools.

Slack’s approach leverages its strength in workplace communication data, using conversations, channels, and historical context to power more relevant AI interactions. However, the company faces ongoing challenges in balancing expanded functionality with the simplicity that originally drove its widespread adoption.
