Smack Technologies, a frontier artificial intelligence lab focused on national security, announced that it has raised $32 million through a seed and Series A funding round to develop AI systems designed to support decision-making for the U.S. military and allied defense organizations.
The Series A round was led by Geodesic Capital and Costanoa Ventures, with participation from Point72 Ventures, Felicis, First In, Scribble Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Washington Harbour Partners, Palumni VC, Fulcrum Venture Group, Anomaly Fund, and Fortitude Ventures. Point72 Ventures led the company’s initial seed round.
Founded in 2024 by former Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) veterans Andrew Markoff and Clint Alanis, Smack Technologies is building domain-specific AI models powered by deep reinforcement learning. The company’s technology is designed to process vast amounts of multimodal sensor data and generate operational insights in real time for military decision-makers.
Smack Technologies is developing two primary product suites, called Omega and Alpha. These systems are intended to break down decision-making silos across defense operations and enable rapid planning and analysis across multiple time horizons, ranging from months into the future to real-time operational decisions.
The company has already secured contracts with several branches of the U.S. armed forces, including the Joint Fires Network (JFN) and the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL). The newly raised funding will support the expansion of the company’s technical leadership team and accelerate research and development of its AI models, applications, and military-focused software platforms.
Smack Technologies says its core mission is enabling “Decision Dominance,” which it describes as the ability to analyze large volumes of sensor data and convert those insights into effective decisions across the military kill chain faster than adversaries. According to the company, improving decision speed and accuracy will be critical to deterring or responding to potential large-scale conflicts in the coming years.
KEY QUOTES:
“In the short term, Decision Dominance will be the deciding factor in preventing WWIII because it’s the only achievable goal before 2027. Not enough has changed in how we run our decision-making processes in over a decade. In the age of AI and autonomous systems, that’s a significant problem. Solving it will require combining multiple extremely complex technologies to develop reasoning models rooted in physics that can make complex time-space calculations with precious resources in seconds. That’s what we’re building.”
Andrew Markoff, Co-Founder And CEO Of Smack Technologies
“Andrew and his team demonstrate a level of technical leadership and operational judgment that very few achieve. They’re applying that experience to one of the most critical challenges in national security today: achieving true decision advantage. Smack brings together a deep understanding of sensors and complex systems, physics-based modeling, and advanced reinforcement learning to enable planning, adaptation, and real-time decision-making under pressure, meaningfully changing how critical decisions get made when it matters most.”
Greg Sands, Founder And Managing Partner At Costanoa Ventures
“By embedding national security domain expertise directly into AI models, Smack is building the frontier AI lab that delivers an intelligence layer focused on protecting our country and allies.”
