Smith Micro Founder Bill Smith Returns As CEO To Drive Next Phase Of Growth

Smith Micro Software founder Bill Smith has returned as President and CEO as the mobile software company seeks to capitalize on new products, expanding customer relationships and a growing pipeline of opportunities.

Smith succeeds Tim Huffmyer, who resigned as CEO to pursue other opportunities but will remain on the company’s Board of Directors.

The move brings Smith back into the operating role he held for more than four decades.

Smith founded the company in 1982 and served as Chairman, President and CEO until March 2026, when he moved into the Executive Chairman position.

His 44 years with Smith Micro give him extensive institutional knowledge of the company as well as the telecommunications and wireless industries it serves.

Huffmyer initially rejoined Smith Micro as COO and CFO before becoming CEO.

Smith credited him with improving operational efficiency and establishing a leaner operating foundation intended to support future growth.

Smith Micro develops software used by major wireless service providers.

Its products include Digital Family Lifestyle capabilities and voice messaging solutions intended to help carriers engage customers across smartphones and connected devices.

Smith’s return comes as management points to improving commercial momentum, including new products entering the market and deeper customer relationships.
