SOCOTEC announced it has acquired American Engineers Group (AEG), a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, marking the company’s entry into the Pennsylvania and Maryland markets. The deal adds nearly 60 professionals across four Mid-Atlantic offices and strengthens SOCOTEC’s growing infrastructure platform in the United States.
Founded in 1959, AEG brings more than 65 years of engineering expertise to SOCOTEC. The firm’s team includes civil and structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, geologists, hydrologists, environmental specialists, surveyors, GIS technicians, and construction inspectors. AEG operates offices in Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, and Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, as well as Largo, Maryland.
AEG provides services across the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects. Its capabilities include geotechnical and civil and structural engineering, transportation design, foundation analysis, construction inspection, environmental services, surveying, and GIS. The company also operates an AASHTO-accredited and USACE-validated materials testing laboratory that supports quality control and assurance for construction projects.
Transportation infrastructure represents nearly 90 percent of AEG’s project portfolio, covering work such as bridge and highway design, major expressway developments, and transit projects. The company also has experience supporting infrastructure related to ports, dams and levees, landfills, renewable energy facilities, and other complex civil engineering projects.
The acquisition continues SOCOTEC’s strategy of expanding its infrastructure services platform in the United States. The company previously acquired Ninyo & Moore on the West Coast, Advance Testing Company in the Northeast, and AAR Testing and Inspection in the Pacific Northwest as part of its broader national growth strategy.
SOCOTEC has also pursued organic expansion alongside acquisitions, including opening new offices in high-growth markets such as Austin, Texas. Since 2019, SOCOTEC USA has grown from a niche consultancy into a multidisciplinary organization with about 1,700 professionals operating across more than 40 offices nationwide and more than 25 accredited construction materials testing facilities.
Globally, SOCOTEC operates in 26 countries with 15,000 employees and serves approximately 250,000 clients. The company provides testing, inspection, and certification services along with technical consulting and risk management solutions for construction, infrastructure, real estate, and industrial projects.
