SoftBank Group entered into a definitive agreement to invest $2 billion in Intel common stock as the companies expanded their commitments to U.S. semiconductor innovation and advanced technology.
Under the agreement announced in August 2025, SoftBank agreed to purchase Intel shares at $23 per share. The transaction was subject to customary closing conditions.
The investment reflected SoftBank’s long-term strategy of supporting technologies that enable artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital transformation and next-generation infrastructure.
SoftBank said semiconductors serve as a foundational technology across industries and expressed confidence that advanced chip manufacturing and supply would continue expanding in the United States.
The company also identified Intel as an important participant in the future of domestic semiconductor production.
Intel described the transaction as a deepening of its relationship with SoftBank, which has invested across several areas of emerging technology and AI infrastructure.
The two companies said they share a commitment to advancing U.S. technology and manufacturing leadership.
For Intel, the investment provided additional capital from a strategic technology investor during a period in which the company was working to expand its manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its position in the global semiconductor market.
For SoftBank, the transaction provided direct exposure to one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies while supporting its broader vision for the AI ecosystem.
The deal also reflected growing investor interest in semiconductor capacity as AI adoption increased demand for computing infrastructure, processors, cloud systems and advanced manufacturing.
SoftBank’s purchase price of $23 per share established the valuation basis for its investment, although the companies did not disclose additional governance rights or strategic commercial agreements connected to the transaction.
