Softcat To Acquire GDT To Build Transatlantic AI-Ready IT Infrastructure Platform

Softcat has agreed to acquire GDT, combining the U.K.-based IT infrastructure provider with a major North American technology solutions business focused on data centers, networking and AI-ready infrastructure.

The transaction is designed to create a broader transatlantic IT solutions platform capable of supporting customers with operations across North America, the U.K., Ireland and other international markets.

GDT will retain its name, leadership team and workforce and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Softcat following completion.

Softcat provides software licensing, hardware, cloud, networking, cybersecurity, AI, data and workplace technology services.

The company has spent several years searching for a North American platform with sufficient scale, technical expertise and cultural alignment to support its international expansion.

GDT gives Softcat an established U.S. enterprise customer base along with deeper capabilities in data center and networking infrastructure.

Together, the companies intend to provide customers with services spanning the full IT lifecycle, from workplace technologies through large-scale data center infrastructure.

The combination could also increase the companies’ role in AI infrastructure projects as enterprises build the secure networking, computing and data center environments required to operate increasingly demanding AI workloads.

Softcat and GDT also plan to expand GDT’s Global Operations Center in Bangalore, increasing engineering resources, business systems capabilities and 24/7 technical support.

The acquisition is expected to close no later than the end of the first quarter of calendar 2027, subject to customary regulatory filings and approvals.
