Sonos Unveils Amp Multi, A Multi Channel Streaming Amplifier Built For Larger Custom Home Audio Systems

Sonos announced it is launching Sonos Amp Multi, a multi-channel streaming amplifier designed for professional residential integrators building more complex, multi-room audio systems. The company positioned the product as an expansion of the Sonos experience into larger homes and higher-channel-count installations, aiming to reduce installation friction while keeping day-to-day control simple for homeowners.

The new unit features eight amplified outputs rated at 125 watts each at 8 ohms and can be configured into up to 4 independent zones. Sonos said integrators can assign any output to any zone, scale systems by adding additional units, and support higher speaker counts without sacrificing stability or sound quality. The company also said each output can support up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, enabling denser installations across multiple rooms or spaces.

On the hardware side, Sonos said Amp Multi uses a GaN-based power architecture paired with Class D post filter feedback, a design the company says improves accuracy, control, and thermal efficiency. Sonos emphasized that the system is designed to operate silently without fans, with an eye toward long-term stability in rack-mounted deployments.

Sonos also highlighted workflow-oriented setup and tuning features intended to make commissioning faster and more predictable. The company said each unit emits a unique audible chirp that can be triggered from the Sonos app to identify hardware, reducing the need for manual PIN entry. For system tuning, Sonos introduced ProTune, a manual optimization toolkit that includes a 10-band parametric EQ plus controls for gain, width, and delay offset, alongside DSP profiles for Sonos Architectural speakers via Optimize Sonos Speakers.

The product is built for racks, using a 1.5U chassis and a dedicated 2U rack mount accessory sold separately that creates ventilation space above and below each unit. Sonos said the design is intended to reduce the need for additional vent panels, improve cable management, and streamline installation with a flat back profile and recessed connectors.

Sonos said Amp Multi will be sold globally through Sonos installation partners in the coming months. The company also said it will demonstrate the product at Integrated Systems Europe 2026 in Barcelona, Feb. 3 to 6, with frequent demos and hands-on experiences across its broader premium audio lineup.

KEY QUOTES:

“Sonos Amp is the most widely used two-channel streaming amplifier in residential installation because it’s powerful, dependable, and intuitive,” said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos. “Amp Multi takes that same philosophy and applies it to larger systems. It makes ambitious designs more efficient to build and install, and easier to live with.”

“We created Amp Multi with integrators at the heart of every decision, drawing on their deep understanding of real-world installation challenges to design a product around how they actually work,” said Chris Heintzelman, VP, Product at Sonos. “The goal was to reduce friction at every stage of a project, from installation and setup to system tuning. This is about giving professionals more control while keeping the system approachable for the people who live with it every day.”
