Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Cinemersive Labs, a UK-based machine learning and computer vision company, as the PlayStation business continues to invest in advanced visual computing and immersive gameplay experiences.
The acquisition brings Cinemersive Labs’ expertise in computer vision and machine learning into Sony’s gaming division at a time when the company is focused on pushing the boundaries of graphical fidelity and real-time rendering. Founded in 2022, Cinemersive Labs has developed specialized capabilities in transforming visual data into more immersive formats, aligning with Sony’s broader efforts to enhance gameplay realism.
Following the transaction, the Cinemersive Labs team will join Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Visual Computing Group, where they will contribute to advancing state-of-the-art visual computing within games. The integration is expected to support initiatives across machine learning-driven rendering, gameplay visuals, and next-generation graphical performance.
Sony said the addition of Cinemersive Labs will help accelerate its ability to apply machine learning techniques to improve rendering efficiency and unlock new levels of visual fidelity for players.
