Spectrum Equity Closes Oversubscribed $2.5 Billion Fund XI

Spectrum Equity closed Fund XI with $2.5 billion in commitments in an oversubscribed single close, marking the largest fund in the growth equity firm’s history. Founded in 1994, Spectrum has now raised more than $12.5 billion across its 11 main funds.

Fund XI will continue Spectrum’s strategy of investing in rapidly growing, capital-efficient, founder-led companies across software, artificial intelligence, and data services.

The firm said it plans to maintain a measured approach to fund size while continuing to focus on businesses with strong growth characteristics and limited prior institutional capital.

Spectrum typically invests between $25 million and $250 million per company.

The firm said Fund XI will primarily target founder-owned businesses that have raised little or no institutional capital before partnering with Spectrum.

Spectrum has invested in more than 190 companies since its founding.

The firm currently has 78 employees and 48 active portfolio companies, giving it a sizable internal team relative to the number of businesses it supports.

Spectrum said its approach emphasizes hands-on involvement with portfolio companies and close collaboration with management teams as businesses scale.

The firm believes advances in artificial intelligence are creating both significant opportunities and new competitive pressures across software and data markets.

Spectrum expects that environment to create opportunities to back management teams that can build durable competitive advantages while using AI to create additional value for customers.

Fund XI attracted support from long-standing limited partners as well as new investors.

More than 50 investors in Fund XI are founders, executives, or board members of companies in which Spectrum has previously invested.

Spectrum said that participation reflects continued support from executives who have worked directly with the firm as portfolio company leaders.

The firm has offices in Boston, San Francisco, and London.

Notable Spectrum realizations include AllTrails, Ancestry, Definitive Healthcare, GoodRx, SurveyMonkey, and Verafin.

In 2026, Spectrum has made investments in splose, WorkFlex, Xapien, Symmetric, and another consumer marketplace company that has not yet been publicly announced.
