FTI Consulting has hired private equity veteran Speed Liu as a Senior Managing Director in its Business Transformation practice in Asia, based in Hong Kong, strengthening the firm’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment amid rising demand for operational turnaround and exit-readiness work across the region.
Liu joins with more than two decades of experience helping investors and management teams drive growth strategies, cost optimization and turnarounds, with a track record spanning buyout transactions, business transformation and deals across the consumer, services and industrials sectors. At FTI Consulting, he will advise private equity sponsors and corporates in Asia and internationally on portfolio transformation, transaction execution, exit preparation and broader value-creation initiatives.
FTI Consulting said Liu’s appointment reflects its focus on pairing strategic advisory capabilities with hands-on implementation support for clients navigating complex situations. Roy Huang, Head of Asia and the Caribbean at FTI Consulting, said private equity firms in Asia are facing a tougher operating backdrop marked by rising costs, higher interest rates, geopolitical uncertainty and increasing pressure from limited partners to accelerate exits while continuing to deploy capital.
Before joining FTI Consulting, Liu was Head of China for Permira, where he led the firm’s Asia investment and operations team. Earlier, he served as a Principal at Unitas Capital in Shanghai.
Liu said shifting market conditions are increasing demand for deep operational transformation alongside integrated transaction support, and that he plans to work across FTI Consulting’s platform — including business transformation, transactions, and capital markets — to help sponsors and corporates manage current challenges with what he described as investor-grade rigor and practical execution.
