A group of investors led by Bryson DeChambeau has acquired Sportsbox AI, a company specializing in kinematic AI and 3D motion capture technology for sports training. Alongside the acquisition, the company introduced Sportsbox AI Motion Intelligence, known as SAMI, a next-generation AI coaching assistant set to launch within the Sportsbox 3DGolf app later this year.
Founded in 2020 by Jeehae Lee, a former LPGA Tour player, and Samuel Menaker, an experienced AI engineer, Sportsbox AI has developed technology that converts smartphone-captured swings into fully rendered 3D models. The system analyzes thousands of biomechanical data points per swing to deliver personalized coaching insights in seconds.
The new SAMI AI Assistant builds on this foundation by introducing an agentic AI layer powered by Google Cloud’s Gemini models. This enables the platform to evolve from a passive data tool into an interactive coaching system that provides real-time, conversational feedback. Users will be able to ask questions about their swing, technique, or equipment and receive tailored recommendations based on their performance data.
The platform is designed to make high-level coaching more accessible, allowing golfers at any skill level to receive insights traditionally reserved for elite athletes. By combining 3D motion capture with multimodal AI reasoning, SAMI aims to bridge the gap between raw performance data and actionable improvement strategies.
The acquisition reflects a broader push toward data-driven, predictive training tools in sports, with Sportsbox AI continuing its collaboration with Google Cloud to enhance user experience and expand AI capabilities across athletic performance applications.
