Spotify announced Talk to Spotify, a new conversational way to interact with the app that allows eligible Premium users to type or speak directly within the platform to shape what’s playing, learn about their music, revisit their listening history, and go deeper on podcasts and audiobooks. The feature appears across Home and the Now Playing view on mobile.
Users can ask Talk to Spotify to curate music on the fly, such as requesting artists they haven’t heard before, then refine the selection with follow-up requests like narrowing to an artist’s recent work or making the mood more upbeat. Once satisfied, users can ask Spotify to save a song, add it to their queue, or follow an artist. From the Now Playing view, users can also ask questions about a song, album, artist, or genre to get more context and discover related artists, sounds, and stories, with the same conversational approach extending to podcasts and audiobooks, allowing questions about a guest’s other appearances or an author’s other works.
The feature also lets users explore their own listening history, asking questions like when they first heard a particular song or what genres they’ve been listening to recently, drawing on Spotify’s understanding of a user’s playlists, favorite artists, and repeat listens. Talk to Spotify is rolling out gradually in beta for Premium users 18 and older in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden across iOS and Android devices in English, with Spotify noting that responses won’t always be perfect as the beta evolves based on user feedback.
