Spotify Introduces Verified Badge To Signal Authentic Artists On The Platform

Spotify is launching a new Verified by Spotify badge to help listeners identify authentic artists on the platform, as part of a broader push to provide greater transparency and trust in the streaming experience. The badge, marked by a light green checkmark icon and “Verified by Spotify” text, will begin appearing on artist profiles and next to artist names in search over the coming weeks. The rollout comes as Spotify expands its suite of context features, including SongDNA, expanded song credits, About the Song, and AI credits, all designed to give listeners more insight into the music and artists they discover.

To qualify for the badge, artists must meet three criteria: consistent listener activity and engagement over a sustained period of time, good standing with Spotify’s platform policies, and identifiable signals of a real artist presence both on and off the platform, such as concert dates, merchandise, and linked social accounts. Spotify says it will pair these standards with human review to identify real artists behaving in good faith, not merely filter out bad actors. At launch, profiles that appear to primarily represent AI-generated or AI-persona artists are not eligible for verification, though Spotify acknowledged the concept of artist authenticity is complex and evolving.

Spotify is also introducing a new beta feature called Artist Profile Protection, which gives artists greater control over what appears on their profiles, helping ensure that the music listeners see is genuinely coming from them. Additionally, a new section rolling out across all artist profiles — regardless of verified status — will highlight key details like career milestones, release activity, and touring history. Spotify describes this as a kind of “nutrition facts” label for artist activity, offering meaningful signals even for artists who have not yet met verification criteria.

At launch, Spotify has ensured that more than 99% of the artists listeners actively search for will be verified, representing hundreds of thousands of artists — the majority of them independent — spanning genres, career stages, and geographies. The company says this approach prioritizes artists with active fan interest or important contributions to music culture, rather than functional music creators and content farms whose output is designed primarily for passive listening. Reviews and verification will continue on an ongoing basis, and Spotify notes that not seeing a badge today does not mean an artist will not receive one in the future.
