Spring Labs Acquires Winnow To Expand AI Compliance Platform

Spring Labs acquired Winnow Solutions, a regulatory compliance technology platform, to strengthen its AI-powered risk and compliance offering for financial institutions.

Winnow will become a core component of SpringGRC, Spring Labs’ platform designed to connect regulatory requirements directly with compliance workflows.

Winnow maintains a structured library of laws and regulations developed and maintained by attorneys and compliance professionals.

The platform catalogs more than 100,000 individual state and federal requirements.

Spring Labs plans to connect that regulatory content with policies, procedures, controls, testing, and case management.

The approach is designed to help financial institutions identify which internal workflows may be affected when regulations change.

SpringGRC can then help compliance teams update the related processes and document the connection between their operational controls and underlying legal requirements.

Winnow was originally launched by the Buckley law firm and was further developed by Orrick following the firms’ combination in 2023.

The acquisition expands Spring Labs’ strategy of using AI to automate risk and compliance operations across financial institutions.

KEY QUOTES:

“Every bank compliance program comes down to one question: are we doing what the rules require, and can we prove it? Today, answering that question depends on people keeping thousands of legal requirements in sync with thousands of workflows by hand.”

John Sun, Co-Founder and CEO of Spring Labs

“Winnow was built on a simple idea: institutions and their compliance teams shouldn’t have to choose between speed and certainty. Joining Spring Labs means joining a team that shares our conviction that regulatory compliance and modern technology belong together.”

Chris Hilliard, Co-Founder and President of Winnow
