Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Taryn Frideres as a partner in its Global Public Policy Practice in Washington, D.C., bringing her back to the firm following more than a decade in senior state and federal government positions.
Frideres most recently served as Chief of Staff to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Her return marks the eighth recent hire into Squire Patton Boggs’ Policy Practice and comes amid a broader expansion of the firm’s Washington office.
The firm said it has added nearly 30 professionals in Washington over the past year.
Frideres brings experience across state government, federal agencies, Congress, diplomacy, national security, trade, and economic policy.
As Chief of Staff to Governor Reynolds, she helped lead an administration responsible for approximately 18,000 state employees and a budget exceeding $20 billion.
Her responsibilities included policy coordination across healthcare, workforce development, taxation, education, public safety, and disaster response.
Before returning to Iowa, Frideres held several positions at the U.S. Department of State.
As Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of State, she advised one of the department’s highest-ranking officials on national security, foreign policy, and international legal matters while supporting strategic initiatives.
She also served as Deputy to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
In that role, she helped coordinate engagement involving the White House, federal agencies, and Congress.
Earlier, Frideres served as General Counsel to Senator Ernst and advised on homeland security, constitutional law, criminal justice, trade policy, and legislative initiatives.
Her experience gives Squire Patton Boggs additional capabilities for clients facing policy questions that cross federal, state, and international jurisdictions.
Those issues can include trade, sanctions, defense, national security, agriculture, economic policy, and government regulation.
Frideres originally began her legal career at Squire Patton Boggs.
She joined the firm as an associate in 2010 after working there as a summer associate in 2009.
During her earlier tenure, she advised sovereign governments and multinational companies on trade, sanctions, defense, and international public policy matters.
Her return comes as the firm continues to expand its policy and government affairs platform.
