StackGen Acquires Shipyard To Add Ephemeral Environments To Autonomous Operations Platform

StackGen has acquired Shipyard, an ephemeral environments platform used by engineering teams to create temporary full-stack environments for software changes before those changes reach production. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Shipyard’s engineering and customer teams are joining StackGen.

The product will continue serving existing and new customers as Shipyard by StackGen while also becoming part of StackGen’s Autonomous Operations Factory.

Shipyard creates an isolated environment for each pull request and removes that environment once the change is merged.

The environments integrate with existing GitHub and GitLab workflows and allow teams to test software changes against a full application stack before deployment.

StackGen plans to incorporate those environments into its autonomous operations architecture as AI agents take on a larger share of software development and infrastructure changes.

StackGen’s Autonomous Operations Factory coordinates Aiden agents for infrastructure, delivery, observability and incident response using a shared operational model.

Shipyard will provide environments where those agents can test and validate proposed changes before the changes are allowed into live systems.

Existing Shipyard customers will retain their current products, contracts and support relationships.

KEY QUOTES:

“Agents are proposing more changes to production every week, and enterprises want proof before they let those changes run. Shipyard gives every change a real environment to prove itself in first. It is a strong business with enterprise and startup customers, and a team that has built a product engineers enjoy using. Bringing it into StackGen moves us toward production operations that agents can run safely.”

Sachin Aggarwal, Co-Founder and CEO of StackGen

“We started Shipyard so engineers could see their changes running before they merged them. More and more of those environments are now requested by agents. StackGen is building a place where agents prove their changes before they reach production, and Shipyard fits right into that. It’s the right home for our customers and our team.”

Benjie De Groot, Co-Founder of Shipyard

“We’ve been Shipyard customers for years and we’ve been very happy with it. Every pull request gets a high-fidelity environment where our browser tests run before anything merges. With more and more PRs coming in from agents, that step matters more than ever.”
