Asif Awan

What is Asif Awan’s background? Awan said:

“My career spans over 35 years, during which I have worked as an entrepreneur, technologist, and builder, focusing on developing innovative solutions for large-scale deployments. I have consistently identified early macro trends that drive major technological shifts and have a proven track record of creating category-defining products. I have led the architecture, development, and management of distributed, cloud-native applications and infrastructure at scale. I have also had the privilege of founding and leading multiple successful ventures. I was the Founder and CTO of Plursona, a mobile security startup that pioneered Mobile Application Management and was acquired by HPE Aruba Networking.

“I also founded Layered Insight, a leader in container security, which was later acquired by Qualys. At Videspan, our team pioneered a cloud-agnostic no-code MLOps platform, transforming the lifecycle management of machine learning models. More recently, I co-incubated Accurics, a leader in Infrastructure-as-Code security, alongside my current co-founder, Sachin Aggarwal. Accurics was acquired by Tenable for its groundbreaking work in cloud security.”

Formation Of StackGen

How did the idea for the company come together? Awan shared:

“The idea for StackGen was born out of the frustrations I encountered while scaling the products we built at my previous startups. As we grew, the challenges of infrastructure provisioning became increasingly apparent and burdensome. It wasn’t just us—through my experience, I realized that these infrastructure-related pain points were pervasive across many enterprises. Partnering with Sachin Aggarwal, our CEO and former CEO of Accurics, and Arshad Sayyad, we honed in on the complexities of Infrastructure as Code (IaC). We set out to simplify this process, enabling companies to focus on accelerating their development cycles. This led to the creation of our Generative Infrastructure platform.

Favorite Memory

What has been Awan’s favorite memory working for the company so far? Awan reflected:

“Startups are exciting and challenging all at the same time. You don’t have the same resources as enterprise players, but you seek to disrupt and dislodge them and revolutionize the industry. Launching our product in the market is my favorite memory to date. Our team came together with a single purpose to launch the Generative Infrastructure solution that could meet the needs of DevOps, platform engineers and developers. The comradery around launching a disruptive product is priceless and something that I will always cherish!”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Awan explained:

“StackGen offers The Generative Infrastructure Platform. The platform deterministically generates secure cloud infrastructure from any input – existing cloud environments, IaC, or application code. Users can visualize, secure, and generate cloud infrastructure, from modernization to migration, and build faster, more efficiently, and with confidence.

We help customers deliver infrastructure from anywhere and everywhere. Whether you are in AWS and need to migrate to Azure, or need to audit, clean, and maintain IaC, our Generative Infrastructure platform enables it. We can analyze source code, existing IaC templates, state files, and even the deployed applications and resources, create a visualization of the deployment architecture and generate the IaC required to get your infrastructure provisioned.”

“We recently announced our support for Argo CD. As one of the leading CI/CD platforms in the cloud native space, we wanted to reduce the friction of deploying Kubernetes based applications that use Helm charts. The key benefits of integrating StackGen with Argo CD include enhanced deployment speed through streamlined Helm chart generation, and significantly reducing the time from code to production. Additionally, robust security measures are built into the Helm charts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and minimizing vulnerabilities. By automating the chart creation process, StackGen also reduces human error, allowing teams to deploy with greater confidence. This integration not only frees developers to focus on core application development but also simplifies infrastructure management, ultimately driving greater innovation and improving overall productivity.”

Challenges Faced

What challenges have Awan and the team face in building the company? Awan acknowledged:

“Every industry faces its own set of challenges, especially the pressure to boost development. We want to get more features to market quickly with time and resource constraints and we know that our customers – platform engineers, DevOps and developers – are in the same boat. We’re here to help tackle these obstacles by addressing multiple daily problems with infrastructure automation. With our approach to delivering consistent, standardized, and secure IaC, we aim to streamline a variety of use cases, from new infrastructure deployments and IaC creation to cloud migrations and ongoing IaC maintenance. We are solving both the challenges we face as well as our customers by accelerating time to delivery.”

Evolution Of StackGen’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Awan noted:

“Since our initial launch, StackGen’s technology has evolved significantly in response to both market demand and customer feedback. Initially, our focus was on simplifying Infrastructure as Code through our Infrastructure from Code solution. Over time, we’ve expanded the platform’s capabilities to cater to the evolving needs of DevOps, platform engineers, and developers by enhancing automation, letting the users bring their own (BYO) templates, policies, resources etc, adding advanced security and compliance features, and improving integration with existing toolchains. We’ve also prioritized scalability and usability, ensuring that our solution can support organizations of all sizes. Our iterative development approach has allowed us to continuously innovate, staying ahead of industry trends and delivering value to our customers as their infrastructure needs grow.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Awan cited:

“We are particularly proud of the adoption of our software by leading enterprises that helped us close a $12.3 million seed round in early September. This momentum helps us invest more in product development and scale our go-to-market strategy.”

Total Addressable Market

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Awan assessed:

“StackGen is targeting a substantial and rapidly growing market. The TAM for our solution encompasses several major segments, including the global Infrastructure as Code (IaC) market, DevOps tools market, and the cloud infrastructure market. With enterprises increasingly adopting cloud-native architectures and seeking to automate their infrastructure provisioning, we estimate the TAM to be in the tens of billions of dollars globally. As more organizations shift to multi-cloud and hybrid environments, and as the need for faster, more secure, and efficient infrastructure management grows, we see significant opportunities to expand our reach and impact within this evolving space.”
