Lucasfilm has officially introduced the ninth chapter of the Star Wars saga and it has the subtitle “The Rise of Skywalker.” Above is a teaser of the upcoming film. The setting of the film takes place 42 years after visiting a galaxy far far away. Specifically, this takes place after The Last Jedi when Leia Organa’s Resistance movement had to run from the First Order. In that installment, Luke Skywalker died following a battle against his nephew Kylo Ren.
“The Rise of Skywalker” features an all-star cast, which includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. For the late Fisher’s role, The Rise of Skywalker will feature previously unreleased footage made for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“The Rise of Skywalker” concludes the story behind the Skywalker family. And the story features the last of the Resistance including Finn (played by John Boyega), Rey (played by Daisy Ridley), Poe (played by Oscar Isaac), and Rose (played by Kelly Marie Tran) battling against the First Order and Kylo Ren (played by Adam Driver). “The Rise of Skywalker” was directed by J.J. Abrams.
The trailer was revealed by Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and the film cast during a panel at a Star Wars Celebration event on Friday.
“This movie, it’s about the new generation, and what they’ve inherited, the light and the dark, and asking the question as they face the greatest evil ‘Are they prepared? Are they ready?’” asked Abrams during the event via Polygon.
“The Rise of Skywalker” will be arriving in theaters on December 20, 2019.
