StarLIMS: MODA Platform Acquisition From Lonza To Expand Manufacturing And Quality Control Capabilities

By Amit Chowdhry ● Mar 27, 2026

StarLIMS has agreed to acquire the MODA Platform from Lonza in a move designed to deepen its capabilities across manufacturing operations and quality control. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

The acquisition positions StarLIMS to extend its core laboratory information management system offering into manufacturing environments, creating a more comprehensive, end-to-end solution for customers. By integrating the MODA Platform, the company aims to connect laboratory workflows with production processes, enabling greater automation and efficiency from research and development through manufacturing.

The MODA Platform is widely used in regulated industries for manufacturing quality assurance and control. Its software enables organizations to manage compliance requirements while improving production speed and operational visibility. With an installed base spanning pharmaceutical, biotech, and contract development and manufacturing organizations, the platform brings established capabilities in digital quality processes and manufacturing execution.

StarLIMS currently serves more than 2,000 laboratories across industries, including life sciences, food and beverage, chemicals, oil and gas, and clinical diagnostics. The addition of MODA is expected to enhance its ability to support customers across the full product lifecycle, from early-stage R&D through commercialization and production.

Lonza, one of the world’s largest contract development and manufacturing organizations, is divesting the MODA Platform as part of a broader strategy to focus its portfolio on core areas such as CDMO services, essential raw materials, and life science tools. Following the transaction, Lonza will remain a strategic customer of the MODA Platform under its new ownership.

Together, StarLIMS and MODA are expected to deliver a unified system that meets the growing industry demands for regulatory compliance, data integration, and digital transformation across laboratory and manufacturing environments.
