State Street Investment Management has made a strategic minority investment in Coller Capital, one of the world’s largest private market secondaries managers. The partnership aims to broaden access to private capital secondaries and foster innovation across client segments.
The relationship will enable State Street Investment Management and its clients to tap into Coller’s deep expertise in private equity and private credit secondaries. With more than $5 trillion in assets under management across over 60 countries, State Street Investment Management views the collaboration as a key step in its strategy to expand into private markets through partnerships with established alternative asset managers.
Coller Capital, which manages over $46 billion in secondary assets across institutional closed-end and perpetual funds, brings a 35-year legacy of innovation and leadership in private market secondaries. The strategic investment will support Coller’s long-term growth objectives and expand access to secondaries to a broader range of global investors.
Industry data show that secondaries are becoming a growing part of institutional and individual asset allocation strategies, with over $160 billion transacted in 2024 and projections reaching nearly $500 billion by 2030. The market’s growth is driven by demand for diversification, liquidity, and differentiated investment opportunities.
The deal is a minority investment and will not affect Coller’s investment process or day-to-day operations. Proceeds from the investment will be reinvested into the firm to advance its business expansion.
Support: Goldman Sachs served as financial advisor to State Street Investment Management, with Sullivan & Cromwell and Ropes & Gray providing legal counsel. Morgan Stanley acted as financial advisor to Coller Capital, while Kirkland & Ellis served as its legal advisor.
