StepStone Group has appointed Yoshitaka Todoroki as Vice Chairman, Japan, adding a private markets executive with more than 30 years of investment experience to support strategic initiatives in Japan and the broader Asian market.
Todoroki joins StepStone after approximately a decade at Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund, where he most recently served as Executive Director of the Private Market Investment Department.
During his tenure at GPIF, Todoroki led the development of the institution’s private markets investment program across private equity, infrastructure and real estate.
His responsibilities included establishing investment strategy and frameworks, developing risk monitoring and management processes and building relationships with general partners and institutional investors globally.
That experience gives StepStone an executive with a background from the asset-owner side of the private markets industry as the firm continues growing its presence in Japan and across Asia.
Before joining GPIF in 2016, Todoroki served as Head of the Alternative Investment Group at Sumitomo Mitsui Asset Management.
Earlier in his career, he held investment roles at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, MassMutual Life Insurance Japan and The Sumitomo Trust and Banking Co.
Todoroki holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Hitotsubashi University and completed the Investment Management Programme at London Business School.
StepStone provides customized private markets investment solutions along with advisory and data services.
As of June 30, 2026, the firm was responsible for approximately $913 billion of total capital, including $245 billion of assets under management.
StepStone works with public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurers, endowments, foundations, family offices and private wealth clients.
Its investment platform spans private equity, infrastructure, private debt and real estate.
