Storytel Group: Overamstel Publishers Acquisition Strengthens Benelux Publishing Presence

By Amit Chowdhry ● May 21, 2026

Storytel Group announced the acquisition of 100% of independent Dutch and Belgian publisher Overamstel Publishers, further expanding the company’s publishing footprint and customer offering across the Benelux region, one of Storytel’s core markets.

Founded in 2007, Overamstel Publishers operates a portfolio of imprints including Carrera Culinair, Hollands Diep, Lebowski, Moon, and The House of Books. The company publishes fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature across print, audiobook, and e-book formats. Its catalog includes authors such as Annejet van der Zijl, Carry Slee, Agatha Christie, and Barack Obama.

Overamstel CEO Martijn Griffioen will remain in his leadership role following the acquisition. Helena Gustafsson, Chief Content & Publishing Officer at Storytel Group, will become Chair of the Overamstel board, while Stefan Wård, CFO of Storytel Group, and Laura Stoorvogel, Country Manager Netherlands at Storytel, will join as board members.

Storytel said Overamstel will continue operating with its own identity as an independent publisher within the broader Storytel Group structure while continuing to develop both emerging and established authors.

In 2025, Overamstel generated €17.4 million in revenue and €1.3 million in adjusted EBITDA. Physical book sales represented approximately 75% of revenue, while digital sales accounted for roughly 25%, highlighting the publisher’s strong print business alongside growing digital operations.

The purchase price will be paid entirely in cash using Storytel Group’s existing liquidity. Financial terms of the acquisition were not otherwise disclosed.

The acquisition adds Overamstel to Storytel Group’s growing publishing portfolio, which already includes Norstedts Publishing Group, Gummerus, People’s, Storyside, and majority stakes in Lind & Co and Bokfabriken.
