SugaROx: £2.5 Million Raised To Accelerate Precision Biostimulant Commercialization

SugaROx announced a £2.5 million investment from The Mosaic Company as part of its ongoing Series A funding round to accelerate development and commercialization of precision crop biostimulants.

According to the company, the investment builds on earlier support from Mosaic in 2025 and will help fund field validation, regulatory registration, and commercial launch efforts for its first product while advancing two additional products in its development pipeline from proof-of-concept to field testing.

SugaROx develops science-driven crop biostimulants designed to improve agricultural yield and crop quality through targeted plant metabolic pathways. Unlike conventional biostimulants made from plant extracts, algae, or organic waste materials, the company focuses on single-molecule formulations engineered for more consistent field performance.

The company’s proprietary “chemical caging” technology is designed to enable molecules that would normally struggle to penetrate plant cells to be effectively absorbed and transported across cell walls and membranes.

According to the company, its lead product is based on a modified version of trehalose-6-phosphate, a natural plant sugar involved in regulating plant metabolism. The product targets the SnRK1 enzyme associated with famine signaling in plants, redirecting nutrients and carbon toward grain filling to improve both crop yield and quality.

SugaROx said it is expanding field trials across major global agricultural markets to support regulatory approvals and commercial launches in the UK, European Union, and United States.

The company is targeting an initial UK launch between 2027 and 2028, followed by broader international expansion through 2030. Early commercial efforts will focus on staple crops including wheat and barley in Europe and soybean and maize in North America, while continuing development work in horticultural crops.

SugaROx was founded to commercialize precision agricultural technologies that improve crop productivity and sustainability through targeted plant biology. The company said biostimulants represent one of the fastest-growing categories in agricultural inputs as growers face increasing pressure to increase output with fewer resources.

KEY QUOTES:

“SugaROx is advancing a new category of precision biostimulants that aligns closely with our approach at Mosaic Biosciences, where we are building a science-backed portfolio of solutions that support the biology of plants and soil. We are pleased to support the team as they expand field validation and progress towards commercialisation.”

Jeff Wheeler, Vice President, Biosciences, The Mosaic Company

“Biostimulants are one of the fastest-growing segments in crop inputs. As growers face increasing pressure to produce more with fewer resources, the need for effective, reliable solutions has never been greater.”
