Sullivan & Cromwell is adding David Avery-Gee and Sarah Flaherty as partners in its London office, strengthening the global law firm’s capabilities across U.K., European and cross-border M&A.
Avery-Gee will become Co-Head of Sullivan & Cromwell’s European M&A practice alongside Paris-based Olivier de Vilmorin.
His practice spans public and private M&A, cross-border transactions, joint ventures, public takeovers, distressed M&A, corporate restructurings and strategic advice for listed-company boards.
Sullivan & Cromwell said the addition strengthens its London capabilities particularly across energy, natural resources, infrastructure, digital infrastructure, financial institutions and insurance.
Flaherty advises on international public and private M&A, corporate restructurings, joint ventures and equity offerings.
She has particular experience across natural resources, consumer and healthcare and previously spent two years on secondment as a senior case officer with the U.K. Takeover Panel, giving her specialized knowledge of the Takeover Code.
The hires continue the expansion of Sullivan & Cromwell’s London office while strengthening links with its European practices in Paris, Frankfurt and Brussels and its U.S. securities and regulatory capabilities.
The firm’s global M&A lawyers have advised on more than $2.8 trillion of domestic and cross-border transactions over the past five years, according to LSEG data cited by Sullivan & Cromwell.
