Summer Robotics: Series A Funding Raised For Vision-Guided Robots

By Amit Chowdhry • Oct 7, 2025

Summer Robotics has announced the first closing of its Series A financing round, led by Applied Ventures, the venture capital arm of Applied Materials. The round also included participation from Solasta Ventures, NAVER D2SF, and other investors.

Kortx is designed to enable robots to operate in dynamic and unstructured environments, even under challenging lighting conditions. This capability opens up new possibilities for automation in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and emerging humanoid robotics. By improving how robots perceive and respond to their surroundings, Summer Robotics aims to unlock more flexible and intelligent automation solutions.

Alongside the funding announcement, the company introduced Rick Van Valkenburg as its new Chief Commercial Officer. Rick brings nearly three decades of experience in automation and machine vision, including a long tenure at Perceptron Inc., where he played a key role in driving commercial growth and building global partnerships. His appointment signals Summer Robotics’ intent to scale its commercial operations and deepen its industry relationships.

Summer Robotics has already begun pilot programs with automotive manufacturers and is actively expanding into other sectors that require advanced automation. With fresh capital and seasoned leadership, the company is positioning itself to become a key player in the next generation of vision-guided robotics.

How the funding will be used: This funding will be used to accelerate the development of the company’s Kortx machine vision platform, which is designed to enable robots to function effectively in unpredictable, real-world environments.
