Sunlight AI has raised $17.4 million in seed funding and acquired Bradford Medical Associates as it builds an AI-enabled operating platform for independent medical practices. The financing was led by Lan Xuexhao, founder of Basis Set Ventures, with participation from Sofeon Ventures, Social Leverage, Actions Capital, Overlook Ventures, Early Light Ventures, and additional healthcare investors, family offices, and technology founders.
Sunlight is targeting the administrative burden independent physicians face, which often requires practices to manage multiple vendors and operational systems alongside patient care. Its platform combines practice-management infrastructure, human expertise, and AI to give independent practices capabilities normally available to larger healthcare organizations.
The company cited increasing financial pressure on independent practices. According to data cited in the announcement, practice operating expenses rose roughly 11% in 2025, while Medicare physician payments have fallen more than 30% since 2001. The release also cited data showing hospitals and corporate organizations acquired more than 85,000 practices between 2018 and 2026, and that about 18% of physicians remain independent.
Sunlight said its platform can lower administrative costs per encounter, improve collections for delivered care, and increase patient capacity. The company also said its first cohort of arbitration clients in 2026 recovered multiples of payers’ initial payment amounts while paying lower fees than competing vendors.
Founder and CEO Sina Chehrazi previously founded Nayya Health. His father, Professor Barry Chehrazi, is an independent neurosurgeon and founding member of Sunlight’s Independent Medicine Advisory Board, giving Chehrazi direct exposure to the operational challenges independent physicians face.
Bradford Medical Associates represents the first of several planned acquisitions for Sunlight as the company adds service providers serving independent physicians. Sunlight is based in New York and Miami and is developing what it describes as a patient-to-payment operating layer that allows physicians to maintain ownership and clinical control while gaining additional operating infrastructure.
KEY QUOTE:
“I grew up seeing what getting paid costs a practice, and at Nayya I saw rising healthcare costs squeeze employers every year. Physicians need more time to see patients and make clinical decisions, and less time dedicated to operational overhead. We are handcrafting operating intelligence for independent physicians while preserving physician ownership and clinical control.”
