Sunthetics has been named Co-Principal Investigator on a major National Science Foundation (NSF) initiative, securing $19.5 million in funding. This initiative focuses on creating and deploying AI-enabled autonomous laboratories.

This project is a key component of the NSF’s ambitious Programmable Cloud Laboratories Test Bed initiative, which aims to establish a nationwide network over the next four years. The goal of this network is to significantly advance automated scientific research, propelling discoveries that could lead to revolutionary advancements across various scientific disciplines.

As a notable contributor to this initiative, Sunthetics is one of 20 collaborative teams that are collectively receiving a remarkable $400 million in funding from the broader NSF program. Scripps Research is leading the project in partnership with UCLA and Sunthetics, showcasing strong collaboration among leading research institutions.

The collaborative effort aims to develop an open, AI-guided platform to facilitate high-throughput chemical reaction discovery. This cutting-edge platform will integrate several advanced technologies, including robotics and automation, as well as AI models meticulously trained on chemical reactivity data. The initiative also emphasizes open data standards, ensuring the scientific community can freely share and access findings.

Sunthetics stands out in chemical and pharmaceutical research as a pioneering organization that has developed innovative machine-learning technology capable of leveraging datasets with as few as five data points. This technology enables Sunthetics to create effective research and development roadmaps that help streamline the decision-making process for researchers in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.

Moreover, Sunthetics operates under the umbrella of L’ATTITUDE Ventures, a seasoned investment firm that manages over $100 million in assets. This affiliation not only highlights Sunthetics’ financial backing but also provides a strong framework for continued innovation and leadership in AI-driven scientific research.
