Swapfiets Acquires Dance To Expand European Bike Subscription Leadership

By Amit Chowdhry • May 21, 2026

Swapfiets announced it has acquired Dance, bringing together two of Europe’s leading bike subscription brands in a deal that significantly expands the company’s footprint across major urban markets including Paris, Berlin, and Hamburg.

Following the acquisition, the combined business will serve approximately 280,000 members across 45 cities with a fleet of more than 75,000 premium e-bikes. The transaction strengthens Swapfiets’ position as a leading bike subscription platform in Europe as demand for urban mobility alternatives continues to grow.

Swapfiets CEO Marc de Vries said the company has long admired Dance for building a strong product, a recognizable brand, and a digital-first rider experience. He emphasized that both companies share the same mission of making European cities more liveable through sustainable transportation solutions.

The companies confirmed that Swapfiets and Dance will continue operating as separate brands while leveraging combined strengths to pursue new growth opportunities and enhance the customer experience.

Dance was founded by Christian Springub and has established a presence in key European cities through its subscription-based e-bike platform. The acquisition aligns with broader trends in urban mobility, where consumers increasingly favor flexible subscription services over traditional ownership models.

The combined organization plans to continue expanding bike subscription adoption across Europe, centered around a shared vision that subscription bikes should become a standard feature of urban transportation infrastructure.
