Sweetgreen Selling Spyce To Wonder In $186.4 Million Strategic Deal

By Amit Chowdhry ● Nov 9, 2025

Sweetgreen announced that it has agreed to sell its Spyce business, which developed the company’s Infinite Kitchen technology, to Wonder. The transaction is valued at $186.4 million and marks a significant strategic step for Sweetgreen as it continues to invest in growth and operational efficiency. Wonder will obtain the Spyce engineering workforce and platform, while Sweetgreen will retain full access to the Infinite Kitchen through new licensing and supply agreements.

Sweetgreen will receive $100 million in cash and shares of Wonder’s Series C Preferred Stock valued at approximately $86.4 million based on Wonder’s most recent equity financing terms. The new supply and license agreements will enable Sweetgreen to continue rolling out Infinite Kitchen technology across its restaurants, supporting operational scale, increased throughput, improved consistency, and an elevated customer and team member experience.

Sweetgreen acquired Spyce in 2021 for approximately $70 million, including post-acquisition milestone payments. Since then, the Infinite Kitchen has been implemented in more than 20 Sweetgreen locations across the United States. The system automates core assembly operations to support faster service while freeing team members to focus on hospitality and food preparation.

As part of the sale, 38 engineers and support staff associated with Spyce will transition to Wonder. This includes Spyce co-founders Michael Farid, Kale Rogers, Brady Knight, and Luke Schlueter.

For Wonder, the acquisition strengthens its evolution from a multi-restaurant operator toward a broader technology-enabled food platform. The Infinite Kitchen will be used to expand Wonder’s restaurant footprint and enhance its ability to deliver high-quality meals at scale with faster speed and consistency.

KEY QUOTES

“We’re incredibly proud of the work our team and the Spyce team have done to develop, scale, and monetize one of the world’s most advanced robotic food technologies. We remain deeply confident in both the Infinite Kitchen’s future impact and the brilliant team behind it. As we focus on driving long-term, profitable growth, our collaboration with Wonder will enable us to continue expanding and enhancing the Sweetgreen experience for our guests, while unlocking new opportunities for innovation and scale in the years ahead.”

Jonathan Neman, Co-Founder and CEO of Sweetgreen

“At Wonder, everything begins and ends with the customer. As we evolve from a first-of-its-kind, multi-restaurant operator into a truly scalable, technology-powered food platform, the acquisition of Spyce’s Infinite Kitchen gives us leading robotics capabilities that will transform how food is prepared and served. This technology enables us to eventually operate more than 100 restaurants across any cuisine type and price point, all out of a small kitchen, while serving food faster, hotter and with flawless accuracy and consistency. It furthers our mission to make great food more accessible, bringing more restaurants to more people, in more places, at more times of day and at more affordable prices.”
