SwiftConnect announced the acquisition of HID’s Workforce Business Unit, including HID SAFE, a platform for automating identity lifecycle management in the physical world. The transaction builds on HID’s prior participation in SwiftConnect’s Series B funding round, and HID will hold a minority, non-controlling interest in SwiftConnect following close, which remains an independent company controlled and managed by its existing leadership team.
The combination pairs SwiftConnect’s AccessCloud platform, which connects identity providers, mobile credentials, and access control systems across buildings and campuses, with HID SAFE’s governance layer, which automates access requests, approvals, policy enforcement, and revocation based on changes in HR, IT, and security systems. Together, the companies said the combined platform addresses a common enterprise problem in which physical access permissions fail to update automatically when someone joins a company, changes roles, or leaves, because IT and physical security teams typically manage separate systems that don’t communicate. Shane Butler, recently appointed EVP of Identity at SwiftConnect, will lead the SAFE business going forward.
