New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners announced that Archie Norman, chairman of Marks & Spencer, has joined the firm as a senior advisor.
In his new role, Norman will work closely with Sycamore Partners to support its existing investments and help evaluate new opportunities across the UK and broader European consumer and retail sectors.
The appointment comes as Sycamore continues expanding its presence in the UK market. The firm recently strengthened its foothold in the region through its investment in Boots, which formed part of its acquisition of Walgreens Boots Alliance in August 2025.
Norman currently serves as chairman of Marks & Spencer, one of the UK’s largest home, fashion and food retailers. In that role, he has worked alongside management on a multi-year transformation aimed at improving operating performance, strengthening governance and positioning the company for long-term value creation.
Prior to Marks & Spencer, Norman was chief executive officer of Asda, where he led a significant turnaround of the business. He also served as chairman of ITV, guiding the company through a period of industry disruption.
Across his executive, board and advisory roles, Norman has developed a track record of working with leadership teams during pivotal periods of change and helping businesses navigate operational and strategic transformation.
Founded in 2011, Sycamore Partners focuses on consumer, distribution and retail-related investments. The firm partners with management teams to enhance operating profitability and strategic value across its portfolio companies. Sycamore has raised approximately $13 billion in aggregate committed capital since inception, with investors including endowments, financial institutions, family offices, pension plans and sovereign wealth funds.
