Synapse Health is a technology-enabled platform that streamlines the durable medical equipment (DME) industry by connecting patients, providers, and payers through a digital-first system that handles the end-to-end ordering, verification, and delivery of medical supplies. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Synapse Health President Mandira Singh to learn more.
Mandira Singh’s Background

Could you tell me more about your background? Singh said:
“I’ve spent my career at the intersection of healthcare, technology and operations—building platforms that make care delivery more efficient and equitable. I started in finance – first in investment banking at J.P. Morgan, and then in VC at Essex Woodlands. Business school and an internship at Doximity brought me over to the operating side. I joined athenahealth, where I launched the athenahealth Marketplace and built the API library, also leading our replatforming initiatives. I then joined a Series A startup, Collective Medical, first leading product and then serving as COO. We sold to PointClickCare where I became SVP and GM of the Acute & Payer business. Most recently, I helped launch Habitat Health, a joint venture with Kaiser Permanente focused on elder care. I’ve always been drawn to solving hard problems in healthcare with smart, scalable technology.”
“As President at Synapse Health, I’m responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, scaling our operations and ensuring our technology delivers real-world impact. I work closely with our executive team to align product, partnerships and performance. I spend a lot of time taking in feedback from our stakeholders: patients, prescribers, payers and durable medical equipment (DME) providers, and working with internal teams to solve for their needs and challenges.”
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Singh reflected:
“We have an incredible team at Synapse Health where we have brought in seasoned operators from both DME and tech. My favorite memories are from our cross-functional envisioning sessions when we come together and brainstorm what we can do better and how we get there. We are building something that doesn’t exist, and the way our team shows up to help each other learn and create the path toward our future vision is inspiring.”
Core Products
What are the company’s core products and features? Singh explained:
“We offer three core platforms:
- Connect: For home-based care, we serve as the DME provider of record, managing everything from intake to claims.
- Equip: For skilled nursing and hospice, we connect facilities to network suppliers and integrate with EMRs.
- Patient Portal: One platform that enables patients with medical equipment needs to view and track orders, pay bills, manage all documentation and get support when needed.
All of our tools are designed to reduce friction, improve coordination and deliver predictable outcomes. More importantly, the core of our product suite sits within our four walls, powering our internal specialists to do top-of-license work every day.”
Challenges Faced
Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Singh acknowledged:
“The DME industry is notoriously fragmented with outdated workflows and complex reimbursement rules. As with anything in healthcare, change is an uphill battle. So it’s been challenging to disrupt the way the DME ecosystem has historically operated.”
“One recent challenge was onboarding providers across several new markets with our capitated model. We overcame it by investing in training, building intuitive tools and maintaining open lines of communication. Change is hard, but when it’s done thoughtfully, it’s transformative. That’s what we are aiming for.”
Evolution Of The Company’s Technology
How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Singh noted:
“We’ve gone from a single service line to a full-stack platform that supports every phase of the DME journey. Our tech now includes real-time eligibility checks, streamlined documentation, EMR integrations and a rules engine that ensures compliance. We’re also investing in AI to improve routing and predict patient needs.”
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Singh cited:
“Key milestones include:
- Delivering our 1 millionth order.
- Launching Room+Board and onboarding 1,000 SNFs.
- Partnering with national health plans to manage DME for Medicare Advantage across significant areas of the country.”
Customer Success Stories
Can you share any specific customer success stories? Singh highlighted:
“Synapse works to combine clinical expertise and collaborative support to streamline care decisions for the best possible patient outcomes. Recently, a clinic navigated a complex wound care case after seeking guidance on which supplies would be covered by the patient’s insurance. The caller was not specialized in wound care. Synapse connected them to one of our clinical wound care experts, and together, they developed a plan in coordination with the prescriber to ensure that the patient received the most appropriate supplies to meet their care needs.”
“As a result, the clinic received clear, actionable guidance, and the patient received customized supplies that were covered by their insurance.”
Total Addressable Market
What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Singh assessed:
“The U.S. DME market is estimated at $60–70 billion and growing. It’s driven by aging populations, chronic conditions and the shift to home-based care. We’re focused on the portion of that market where technology can drive the most impact: Medicare Advantage, SNFs, hospice and risk-bearing entities.”
Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates the company from its competition? Singh affirmed:
“We’re not just another point solution—we’re a new model. We take on both the operational and financial complexity of DME, aligning incentives with value-based care, across stakeholders. Our tech is built to integrate without creating friction, giving payers predictability, providers reliability and patients better outcomes.”
Future Company Goals
What are some of the company’s future company goals? Singh emphasized:
“We’re focused on expanding our footprint by continuing to grow our DME provider network. We are actively deepening our AI capabilities to drive efficiency in our operations. We hope to make Synapse Health accessible to Medicaid patients and members with other health plans as we expand our patient base.”
Additional Thoughts
Any other topics you would like to discuss? Singh concluded:
“Just this: DME may not be flashy, but it’s foundational. It touches millions of lives every day and serves some of the most vulnerable patient populations. At Synapse Health, we’re proud to be modernizing this space, and we welcome partners who share our vision for a better, more equitable healthcare system.”
