Synopsys announced the appointment of Peter A. Shimer to its board of directors, adding a veteran financial executive with four decades of experience at Deloitte. Shimer’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will serve on the board’s audit committee.
Shimer spent 40 years at Deloitte, where he held several senior leadership roles, including chief operating officer and chief financial officer. He also served as interim chief executive officer in 2022 and 2023. During his tenure on the firm’s executive committee and under his financial stewardship, Deloitte increased annual revenue by more than 135% to $30 billion. He also led operational performance improvements and key strategic initiatives, including the expansion of Deloitte University and the global implementation of the firm’s enterprise resource planning system.
In addition to his corporate leadership experience, Shimer currently serves as executive committee chair of the Cancer Artificial Intelligence Alliance, a consortium of four leading academic medical centers focused on advancing cancer research and clinical outcomes through artificial intelligence and a federated learning platform. He also serves on the board of Alaska Airlines and holds a BA in accounting from the University of Washington.
The company also announced that Luis Borgen and Dr. Ajei Gopal will not be renominated for re-election to the board. Both directors will continue to serve until the company’s 2026 annual meeting of stockholders. The decision reflects what the board described as its commitment to ongoing director refreshment.
