Syz Capital Names David Weintraub As CEO As Firm Focuses Exclusively On Private Equity

Syz Group has named David Weintraub Chief Executive Officer of Syz Capital as the firm reshapes its alternatives business into a dedicated private equity platform. The appointment is subject to FINMA appointment.

The strategic shift reflects Syz Group’s decision to concentrate Syz Capital on areas where it believes it can create greater value for clients and generate stronger long-term growth.

Under the new structure, Syz Capital will focus exclusively on private equity through two complementary strategies.

The first is direct investment in European small and mid-market business-to-business companies. The second is Syz Capital’s primary private equity program, which gives investors access to a diversified portfolio of private equity opportunities through specialist managers.

Weintraub joins Syz Capital from KIRKBI, the private investment holding company behind the LEGO Group, where he served as Investment Director.

At KIRKBI, Weintraub developed experience across direct investing, transaction execution and value creation, with a focus on investments in technology-enabled sectors throughout Europe.

Before KIRKBI, he worked in investment banking at Alantra, advising corporations and financial sponsors on mergers and acquisitions.

Weintraub will lead Syz Capital’s focused private equity strategy with the support of Syz Group and an experienced Board of Directors.

The appointment also forms part of a broader reorganization of Syz Group’s alternative investment activities.

The group’s hedge funds business will be integrated into Syz Bank, bringing the investment expertise closer to private banking clients and strengthening Syz Bank’s alternative investment offering as demand for the asset class grows.

Syz Group’s Legal Assets business will separate from the organization through a management buyout led by its founder, Olivier Maurice.

The business will operate independently as Hykra Capital SA. Maurice and the Legal Assets team will move to the new company, providing continuity in the management of its existing investment strategies while maintaining a relationship with Syz Group.

Christoph Raninger, who led Syz Capital during the transition, will continue in his role as Group Chief Financial Officer.

Syz Group said the changes are intended to create a more focused Syz Capital while maintaining the broader group’s commitment to alternative investments and private markets.

By narrowing Syz Capital’s mandate to private equity, the firm plans to concentrate its investment expertise around direct European opportunities and its primary private equity program while giving Weintraub responsibility for leading the platform’s next stage of development.
