T-Mobile has announced two strategic fiber joint ventures that will expand its broadband footprint by more than one million households nationwide. The deals pair T-Mobile with private equity firm Oak Hill Capital and global infrastructure investor Wren House, bringing three regional fiber operators into T-Mobile’s growing portfolio alongside its existing fixed wireless 5G broadband business.
In the first transaction, T-Mobile and Oak Hill Capital will form a 50/50 joint venture combining two existing Oak Hill fiber companies, GoNetspeed and Greenlight Networks, into a single platform serving residential customers primarily across the Northeastern United States, with a presence spanning Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. The combined platform is expected to pass more than 1.3 million households by the end of 2026. T-Mobile will invest approximately 2 billion dollars to acquire its 50% equity stake, with the transaction expected to close in the first half of 2027.
In the second transaction, T-Mobile will form a separate 50/50 joint venture with Wren House to acquire i3 Broadband, a fiber-to-the-premises provider serving residential customers in Missouri, Illinois, and Rhode Island. i3 Broadband is expected to pass approximately 500,000 households by the end of 2026. T-Mobile will invest approximately 700 million dollars for its stake, with that deal expected to close in the second half of 2026.
Both ventures will operate under wholesale models consistent with T-Mobile’s existing fiber joint venture strategy, offering customers simple plans, transparent pricing, and no annual service contracts. The transactions build toward T-Mobile’s long-term target of serving 18 to 19 million total broadband customers by the end of 2030, including 3 to 4 million fiber customers. T-Mobile has grown to approximately one million fiber customers in just two years through its existing joint venture partnerships.
