Telum Therapeutics announced the completion of an €18 million Series A financing round. The funding will advance the company’s lead antimicrobial program targeting hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia caused by Acinetobacter baumannii.
AMR Action Fund led the round, with participation from new investor Inveready. Existing investors Invivo Partners, CDTI through SICC Innvierte, Clave Capital, and Sodena also continued their support.
Telum Therapeutics is a biotechnology company using proprietary metagenomic datasets, synthetic biology, and generative AI to develop novel antimicrobial therapies. The company’s lead program is built on its proprietary APEX platform, which is designed to discover and develop biologically derived, protein-based antimicrobial therapeutics.
The financing is expected to support Telum’s lead candidate through Phase 1 clinical development. This work will generate safety and translational data to support later stages of clinical evaluation.
Acinetobacter baumannii is a multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogen associated with significant morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients worldwide. Telum’s program is designed to address severe infections where resistance to existing therapies creates major treatment challenges.
AMR Action Fund is a venture capital fund focused exclusively on urgently needed antimicrobial therapeutics and diagnostics. Its investment brings both capital and antimicrobial resistance expertise to support Telum’s clinical development strategy.
Telum said the round also provides resources to advance its broader pipeline. The company is developing antimicrobial candidates targeting both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens.
The financing brings together international and Spanish life sciences investors, technology-focused investment funds, and public institutions. It also highlights the role of Navarra’s innovation ecosystem in supporting science-driven companies with global ambitions.
Telum Therapeutics is based in Spain and is focused on developing new antimicrobial therapies for severe multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. The company’s APEX platform supports the discovery and development of new protein-based antimicrobial candidates for clinically important pathogens.
KEY QUOTES:
“Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most formidable bacterial threats in modern medicine. It is clinically challenging, often resistant to first-line therapies, and a pathogen for which progress has been slow and difficult to achieve. We are encouraged by Telum’s novel approach and pleased to support the team as they work to bring forward a new treatment option for patients with life-threatening infections.”
Dr. Henry Skinner, CEO of AMR Action Fund
“We are delighted to welcome AMR Action Fund and Inveready as new investors in Telum. AMR Action Fund’s dedicated focus and deep expertise in antimicrobial resistance, together with the continued support of Invivo Partners, Clave Capital, CDTI-Innvierte and Sodena, reinforces our confidence in the potential of the APEX platform to generate a new class of antimicrobial therapies for difficult-to-treat infections. This financing provides a clear path to complete Phase 1 development of our lead program targeting Acinetobacter baumannii HABP/VABP, while also enabling us to advance our broader pipeline addressing both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens.”
Dr. Subhendu Basu, CEO of Telum Therapeutics
