TerraCycle announced that its commercial division has acquired NLR Inc., a Connecticut-based leader in universal and regulated waste recycling. The acquisition marks the fourth regulated waste recycling company added to TerraCycle Commercial and expands the company’s collection and processing capabilities across the Northeastern United States.
TerraCycle Commercial provides recycling and compliance solutions for regulated and universal waste streams, including mercury-containing fluorescent lamps, batteries, electronics, and other materials requiring specialized handling. Prior acquisitions in the division include Air Cycle Corporation, Complete Recycling Solutions, and North Coast Services. With the addition of NLR, TerraCycle Commercial strengthens its position as a major provider of regulated and universal waste recycling services nationwide.
NLR customers will continue working with their existing service teams while gaining access to TerraCycle’s broader portfolio of recycling solutions, including Zero Waste Box and bulk recycling programs for difficult-to-recycle materials. Customers will also benefit from access to R2-certified electronics recycling operations through Complete Recycling Solutions in Massachusetts and North Coast Services in New Hampshire.
The acquisition broadens the capabilities available to customers of both organizations. NLR clients gain access to TerraCycle’s recycling, recycled-content, and reuse offerings, while TerraCycle customers can leverage NLR’s expertise in regulated and universal waste management and compliance services.
NLR’s East Windsor, Connecticut team will remain in place following the transaction. Co-founder Robert E. Robert will continue managing the NLR division, while co-founder Ray Graczyk is retiring after helping build the company and contributing to recycling policy development through his leadership in the recycling industry.
The acquisition was funded primarily through proceeds from TerraCycle’s recently completed Regulation CF offering and supports the company’s strategy of expanding its TerraCycle Commercial division through targeted investments in regulated waste recycling capacity.
TerraCycle said the transaction aligns with its broader mission of building solutions across the waste lifecycle, including recycling, recycled-content products, reuse platforms, and litter prevention initiatives, all aimed at advancing a circular economy and eliminating waste.
KEY QUOTES:
“Joining TerraCycle is the right next step. At our core, our customer service philosophy remains rooted in delivering a highly personalized and professional experience. Even as TerraCycle continues to grow and expand, the commitment to absolute customer focus will continue. I’ll continue managing the NLR division, and our customers will work with the same dedicated team they always have. Now, with the added scale, capabilities, and reach that TerraCycle brings, we can combine big-company resources with that small-business feeling of deep care. This allows us to do even more for the customers who have relied on us for three decades, while expanding that same personal touch to many more clients going forward.”
Robert E. Robert, Co-Founder, NLR Inc.
“Universal and regulated waste has long been managed by vendors focused on compliance, not innovation. NLR is our fourth acquisition in this space, following Air Cycle Corporation, Complete Recycling Solutions, and North Coast Services, and it strengthens our reach and collection capacity across the Northeast. Through our active Regulation A investment offering, we are raising capital with a goal of scaling the solutions this industry demands.”
Tom Szaky, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, TerraCycle
