Tesla has expanded its Robotaxi ride-hailing service to Tampa and Orlando, increasing its presence in Florida to three metropolitan markets. The company entered the state earlier in July with a limited launch in Miami.
The initial Tampa and Orlando deployments operate within designated geographic service areas. Tesla published maps outlining the available zones but did not disclose the number of vehicles assigned to either market or how many customers can currently access the service.
Customers request rides through Tesla’s Robotaxi mobile application. The app allows users to enter a destination within the active service area, review the estimated fare and wait time, and confirm the trip.
Tesla began offering Robotaxi rides in Austin in June 2025 before expanding into Dallas and Houston. The addition of Miami, Tampa and Orlando gives the company six announced operating markets, while supervised testing has also taken place in California’s San Francisco Bay Area.
The service currently relies on Tesla vehicles equipped with the company’s camera-based automated-driving technology and AI software. Tesla’s approach differs from autonomous vehicle systems that combine cameras with lidar and other specialized sensors.
Tesla plans to eventually introduce Cybercab, its purpose-built autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, into the Robotaxi network. The company is initially using Model Y vehicles as it develops the service and expands operating coverage.
The Tampa and Orlando launches extend Tesla’s autonomous ride-hailing platform into two additional tourism and population centers. However, availability will initially remain dependent on a rider’s location, the boundaries displayed in the app and the number of vehicles operating within each market.
Tesla has said safety testing is a significant factor determining the speed of its Robotaxi expansion. The company is pursuing a gradual city-by-city rollout as it seeks to demonstrate that the service can operate reliably across different road networks and driving environments.
Robotaxi has become an important part of Tesla’s strategy beyond manufacturing and selling electric vehicles. The company is working to establish recurring transportation services based on its autonomous-driving software while preparing Cybercab for broader deployment.
