Tesla Adds ‘Fart’ And ‘Romance Mode’ Apps In Firmware Update

Last month, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that the automaker was going to add some Easter Eggs in its electric vehicle software including “toilet humor,” a “romance mode,” and new games. And these features rolled out this week as part of the firmware update 2018.48.12.3a4e97c.

“Super fun software Easter eggs coming to all Tesla S/3/X cars before the holidays! Romance mode, toilet humor & more video games,” wrote Musk in a tweet on November 29th.

Fart App

With the new firmware update, Tesla vehicles now sound like they are passing gas:

You will notice in the above video that the “fart app” in the Tesla vehicles ranges in intensity such as the “Short Shorts Ripper,” “Falcon Heavy,” “Ludicrous Fart,” and “Boring Fart.” There is also a randomizer that switches between the six noises. The fart noises are activated by tapping on a whoopee cushion icon in Tesla’s Easter Egg Menu.

Interestingly, this app is titled “Emissions Testing Mode,” which seems like Tesla’s way of poking fun at some of its rivals like Volkswagen (remember “dieselgate”?). The fart app menu in the vehicle allows Tesla owners to set the feature as “Fart on Demand” or “Fart on Turn Signal.”

Romance Mode

The Romance Mode included in the firmware update is activated by tapping on the fire icon in the Easter Egg menu. After the Romance Mode is activated, it will show a fireplace in the display of the vehicle with crackling fire sounds. And then romantic music is played such as Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing.
